How lovely is your dwelling place,O LORD Almighty!
My soul yearns, even faints,
for the courts of the LORD;
my heart and my flesh cry out
for the living God.
Even the sparrow has found a home,
and the swallow a nest for herself,
where she may have her young--
a place near your altar,
O LORD Almighty, my King and my God.
Blessed are those who dwell in your house;
they are ever praising you.
Psalm 84:1-4
The birdhouse is at our back fence, was made by my father-in-law, and now is serving as winter shelter for many sparrows. My husband made and added the plexiglass cross. I used to think of the many English sparrows around our home and feeders as little pests, worthless compared to the other prettier and less common birds. But I have grown very fond of them and like to think of them as symbols for who we are in God's eyes - mostly very common, ordinary created beings, but deeply loved and appreciated by God, our Creator.
